About Paula

img-5787.jpegPaula James is an artist with an eye for bold and elegant statement designs and is based in Harlem, New York. She has been a visual artist for most of her life. Her art work consists of mixed media abstract collage and assemblage, oils, acrylics and sculpture. It has been more than ten years since she launched her first jewelry design company. The use of precious and semi-precious metals and gemstones is simply another medium to create wearable art. Paula's creative process is driven by her desire to take beautiful gemstones, precious metals and found objects to create unique pieces of jewelry-art that promotes self expression and individuality for her clients.  "It's amazing how a cleverly crafted piece of metal and unblemished rock can make a statement to ones' personality and outfit". Each piece is very personal and hard to part with, but "I've finally got to a place where I'm able to enjoy sharing my creations by bringing happiness to others", says Paula. "Like my collage artwork, each piece is one of a kind and special".

Paula began her jewelry fabrication journey at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York several years ago. She is dedicated to continuous learning to perfect her craft and has studied and been coached by respected artists and jewelry designers from all corners of the world. She works with a wide array of precious and semi-precious gemstones searching out interesting shapes and colors to complete each hand made creation. The metals used in her work include sterling silver, gold, gold-filled, gold-plated brass, and mixed metals. Cultured/ freshwater pearls are a favorite used in many designs. Paula takes prides in providing her clients with the best-in-class pearls available and personally hand-picks and approves every pearl in her designs which she sources from the finest Pearl farms. Her artwork and jewelry can be found in boutique art galleries, gift shops, private showings as well as charity events where a portion of the sales proceeds are donated to causes important to her. Paula sources unusual materials and high quality gemstones from all over the world to create one of a kind pieces of "wearable art" to be enjoyed for years to come.
